Today, Roger and I finally made it to the Columbia Museum of Art to see O'KEEFFE: HER CAROLINA STORY, along with INDEPENDENT SPIRITS: WOMEN ARTISTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA. THE O'Keeffe show is small but intimate and powerful. What I loved was the feeling of being in the presence of a young and brilliant Georgia O'Keeffe about to meet Stieglitz and be introduced to the world! I am so happy I didn't miss this show.

INDEPENDENT SPIRITS, though it may not have included some women artists in SC that I admire greatly, was exceptional and the pieces were well chosen and thoughtfully displayed, giving each work its own space. All in all I was quite impressed. I came away from the Columbia Museum feeling uplifted by the quality of the exhivition and proud that Tree Totem IX had it's place in the show... If you have not seen the two shows, I think it is definitely worth your time to head for the Columbia Museum of Art soon! http://www.columbiamuseum.org/exhibitions/independent-spirits
I would love to hear from you if you have seen or see these shows. Of course we all have our own perspectives and I would love to hear yours...
This Camellia is a special gift from artist friend, Jeanet Dreskin! When she gently dug it from her own extraordinary garden, it was a mere 6 inches tall. Now, it is stands almost 6 feet tall and for the first time, is loaded with white blooms striped in something of a dry brush effect, with crimson and rose!
Most of these were taken on our drives across the 2 elegant bridges we travelled daily between St. George Island and the mainland...
Tomorrow I will post an array of sunsets that will take your breath away!
An amazing collaboration! Thank you CCES MS Arts Guild, 5th grade students and & volunteer parents. Thanks also to Diane Talbert, 5th grade writing teacher who helped her students create insightful and thought provoking mottos... Thanks also go to Cameron Construction and of course the Hyatt House Greenville! Festival of Trees is truly a holiday gift to our entire community of Greenville!
Thank you Pinterest for this idea to paint magnolia leaves! Actually I would love to thank the person who posted this idea for one of the best projects I have ever done with my students! In this case, the entire 5th grade, collected and painted magnolia leaves to hang on a Christmas tree in their 5th grade commons. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined the magnificence of the resulting tree decorated with all their mini-leaf paintings! Each little leaf painting is a unique treasure! I send my congratulations and thanks to each and every 5th grader for their enthusiasm and creativity. The blend of the traditional with unusual resulted in a spectacular, eclectic and joyous 5th grade Christmas tree that will no doubt bring a smile to your face. This project will also make you want to run out and collect magnolia leaves to paint for the holidays!
Merci Beatrice, for the help and support you gave to this project. It was such fun to share this experience with you...
The following images tell a story starting Thanksgiving day at Lake Wylie and ending up yesterday here in Greenville with our 2 amazing grandkids, ages 3 and 6!

This is a MUST SEE event during the holidays! It will be open to the public on Monday, November 29th. Look for the CCES Middle School tree decorated with fans and mottos created by the 5th graders.
Congratulations to each and every one of the 5th graders for your beautiful, thoughtful and creative decorations. I am so proud of your efforts and many thanks to members of the MS Arts Guild for their hard work that will bring all of this together into the most spectacular tree of the event! If you don't believe me, go take a look...
A stunning installation of brilliantly colored umbrellas carefully laid out for the day by Hospice as a way to remember all those who passed this year. This gorgeous installation brings to mind my oldest and dearest friend, Martha Matthews, who passed away this year.... Thank you to Hospice for being there for her until the end and for all the important work you do in our community of Greenville.
